COMPANY HISTORY AND OVERVIEW
Attention to detail and dedication to product and service excellence form an integral part of Kemklean’s mission.
Established in 1963, Kemklean (Pty) Ltd is an owner managed manufacturer, marketer and distributor of industrial maintenance and cleaning chemicals and food processing and handling hygiene products, throughout Southern Africa.
Kemklean supplies hygiene systems primarily to the Food Processing, Retail, Animal Health, Human Health, Mining, Hospitality and Catering Industries. These systems include products, equipment, in-field technical support and training.
Kemklean has increasingly traded in the highly sophisticated and technical end of the hygiene systems market and is really faced with only two multi-national competitors within the Southern African environment. Kemklean is therefore the largest independently owned hygiene system company within Southern Africa.
With effect from 1 January 2009, Kemklean purchased the Animal Health Division of DuPont de Noumeurs International S.A., in Southern Africa. An international technical exchange agreement was entered into with DuPont and Kemklean took ownership of many of the DuPont specialist products used in the food processing, poultry and human health sectors of the Southern African market. Kemklean effectively became the Southern African arm of DuPont in the food processing, live animal and human health market sectors in Southern Africa.
Kemklean values its staff team members extremely highly. Kemklean endeavours to create an environment that engenders integrity, empowerment, collaboration and passion amongst staff members, and which gives each staff member a sense of pride in being part of the successful Kemklean team.
As a founder member and custodian of SAFOST (South African Association for Food Science & Technology), Kemklean is actively involved in developments within the food processing and related industries in South Africa. This involvement includes assisting in the guiding of technical developments within the industry in South Africa, as well as ensuring that international best practice is at all times adopted and further developed within the South African market. Kemklean sits as an industry representative on various standard setting committees of the South African Bureau of Standards from time to time and is therefore at the cutting edge of standard setting and reviews within the South African formulated chemical market.
MANUFACTURING
The manufacturing division strives to convert raw materials into high quality finished products in the most cost-effective manner. Product development is done in-house, and in consultation with United Kingdom based consultants. In addition, Kemklean now has access to all cutting edge international DuPont technical expertise and development ability.
A quality drive initiated during 1988 led to Kemklean being awarded the prestigious ISO 9002 Quality Management Systems Listing in 1989, the first South African owned industrial chemical manufacturer to achieve this. During 2003, this accreditation was upgraded to the new ISO 9001: 2000 format.
Liaising closely with the industrial chemical and microbiological divisions of the SABS, Kemklean’s determined efforts paid dividends and it received HACCP compliance for a complete range of cleaners, disinfectants and CIP products for the food industry in February 1996.
In addition, our products carry the South African Bureau of Standards (SABS) mark, comply to SABS and other industry specifications, and where required, are manufactured to satisfy customer needs. All disinfectants are registered by the SABS and Department of Agriculture where required.
MARKETING AND SALES
The Marketing and Sales division’s objective is to add value to the finished products and to service the various markets in the most efficient and cost effective way.
This division is run by 3 Sales Directors, with 37 Consultants, serving all 9 Provinces of South Africa and surrounding Southern African countries.
Our marketing strategy is to service growth industries where we are able to “add value” to our product range and not compete on price alone. Typical clients that we service are Pick ‘n Pay, Woolworths, their perishable suppliers, Shoprite / Checkers, Spar, food processing factories and abattoirs, Fedics, all major mining groups, state and quasi government hospitals, private clinics and local health authorities.
Our training programs are certified by HITB / SETA (Services Sector Education and Training Authority), and are an integral part of our business.
